Here are a couple of cushions that I recently made as a birthday gift for a good friend. Laura is a creative force to be reckoned with and also a very good seamstress, you can check out her work over at her blog My Lucky Dip Life.

I decided to use solids in a bid to give the patchwork a more contemporary look. The piecing on this one was quite traditional…

…the other a bit more unusual with half-square triangles done on point.

The reverse of both cushions was a large quarter-square triangle featuring a piece of  the “keep calm and quilt on” print.

As we’re both busy ladies, and there’s the small matter of a national border in the way, we sadly don’t get to meet up as often as we would like to. But this was a bit of a special occasion, so I decided to go for a visit and take her out for lunch. We had a lovely day together, lots of coffee and catching up, and of course we found a fabric store and lost about 1.5 hours of our day in there… we still managed to chat though, after all, we are crafting mums and multitasking is second nature!
