Here’s a little gift made for a friend’s son who is celebrating a birthday. I wasn’t sure what to make for him as quite honestly most of the stuff I make for children has a decidedly girlie slant on it. So I decided to make a drawstring bag that he can put to whatever use he likes; toy storage, swim bag, library bag, whatever he chooses.
Inspiration came from the tutorial over on Noodlehead but instead of putting a zip pocket on the bottom I pieced a contrasting band of lightweight denim to the print and appliquéd his name on. I love the little robots – hope he does too!
It was also round two at the fabric market this week; this time minus child and it was definitely much easier to shop. I went along with a friend and we arrived just as it opened, which was a good job too as it was seriously busy. I was so tempted by so much but managed to exercise restraint.
Laminate prints – drool!
These nearly broke me!
I managed to get the quilt batting I needed and picked up some bargains for myself; a few metres of lightweight cotton suitable for summer tops and nightwear and some very reasonably priced cotton jersey. I have a pattern for a wrap top that I’m keen to try with that. Quite how I resisted dreaming up an on the spot need for those amazing woven upholstery fabrics I don’t know, I never even knew that I needed an old ottoman in my life until that point!
All restraint gone here…
Now there really are no more excuses, the stash is replenished and there are at least 6 different projects that need to be started. So if I don’t write an update soon it’s because I’m erm… sewing!
